Position: Cybersecurity Intern
NextGen Federal Systems is offering high-tech internship opportunities for students eager to learn about cybersecurity. No prior work history is required—candidates will receive training and mentorship throughout the program. Each intern is paired with a full-time mentor and embedded in team projects for hands-on experience.
This mentorship-based program is designed for IT and software development enthusiasts, providing 1-on-1 guidance from seasoned industry professionals. Interns will engage in real-world projects and gain insights into system architecture, coding, software engineering, and cybersecurity practices.
Cybersecurity Activities
- Researching specific standards, technologies, and products
- Reviewing newly published cyber vulnerability reports
- Assisting in identifying and assessing cybersecurity risks and threats
- Learning about security frameworks and standards such as NIST, ISO 27001, and CIS Controls
- Participating in vulnerability assessments and penetration testing
- Assisting in implementing and configuring security controls (firewalls, IDS/IPS, endpoint protection)
- Gaining knowledge in encryption, identity and access management (IAM), and SIEM systems
Qualifications
- US Citizenship required
- Major in Computer Science, Engineering, MIS, or Information Technology
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
- Strong internet research skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities
